Winton Woods Marketing Students Excel at DECA District Competition

Nine Winton Woods High School students in the Great Oaks sports marketing program will represent their school at state competition in Columbus after finishing among the top students at the DECA District 4 regional event on February 19th at the Miami University Middletown campus.  The state-bound students are Noleena Booker, Steven Cleary, Dan Clark, Brian Davis, Jason Doan, Antonio Etter, Andrew Finnerson, Roderick Fitzgerald, and Mitchell Williams.

 

More than 230 students from six schools participated in more than fifteen marketing competitive events.  Winton Woods sports marketing students won a total of 17 trophies, which are given to first through fifth place winners.

 

The following Winton Woods sports marketing students took first place in their events:  Jason Doan in Automotive Services Marketing, Antonio Etter and Andrew Finnerson in Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Steven Cleary in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Individual, Mitchell Williams and Roderick Fitzgerald in Buying and Merchandising,  and Noleena Booker in Apparel and Accessories.   Placing third were Brianna Davis and Chiamaka Okwumo in Hospitality Services Marketing, Ellie Nightingale and Ariana Sanders in Travel and Tourism Marketing, Brian Davis in Marketing Management and Dan Clark in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Individual.   Zipporah Tidwell and Cherish Smith in Sports and Entertainment Marketing and Jessica Rice in Hotel and Lodging earned fourth place in their events.  Placing fifth was Rob Geralds in Food Marketing.

 

All competitors took a one-hundred question multiple choice test on marketing concepts and had to perform an impromptu role play situation that dealt with either human relations problem solving, selling, promotion, economic concepts, management decision making, pricing, product development, planning marketing strategies, customer service problem solving or a combination of the above.  

 

DECA is an association of high school marketing students who are pursing careers in marketing and management.  Ohio DECA has 5,295 members with 190 chapters and National DECA has a total of 170,000 student members for the High School Division.
