Winton Woods Marketing Students excel at DECA district competition

Winton Woods High School Sports Marketing students won a grand total of 21 trophies at the DECA District 4 Spring Competition at the Miami University Middletown campus on January 29. Over 170 students from six schools participated in the event, including Centerville High School, Edgewood High School, Scarlet Oaks Career Development Campus, Sycamore High School, Warren County Career Center and Winton Woods High School (a Great Oaks satellite program). DECA Diamond trophies were presented to first through fifth place winners. There were over 20 marketing competitive events.

The following Winton Woods Sports Marketing students took first place in their events: • Jason Koeninger, Automotive Services Marketing • Kelsie Rogers and Angelique Willis, Buying and Merchandising Management • Emily Cooper in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Individual • Terran Murphy in Retail Marking. Winton Woods Sports Marketing Students who took second place in their events were: • Zach Campbell and Ben Steinhauer, Buying and Merchandising Management • Sam Kramer in Reatil Marketing • Kaira Walton in Marketing Management • Ashley Booker in Hotel and Lodging • Amber Howell in Food Marketing Winton Woods students placing third in their events were: • Allen Payne in Sports and Entertainment Marketing • Jake Senger in Automotive Services Marketing • Megan Hein in Restaurant and Food Service • Markus Lackey in Hotel and Lodging. The fourth place winner from Winton Woods High School was: • Brandon Crumpton in Retail Marketing Placing fifth were Winton Woods students: • Natalie Riessinger in Sports and Entertainment Marketing • Tyrah Wilmont in Apparel and Accessories • Skye Gillespie in Business Services • Candido Garcia in Marketing Management • Shannon Long in Quick Serve Restaurant Management

Winton Woods High School Sports Marketing Instructor Mark Steedly said the following Winton Woods students will compete in Ohio DECA competition in Columbus in March with opportunity to compete at International Competition in Louisville, Kentucky: Angelique Willis, Kelsie Rogers, Jason Koeninger, Terran Murphy, Emily Cooper, Zach Campbell, Ben Steinhauer, Sam Kramer, Ashley Booker, Kaira Walton, Amber Howell, Allen Payne, Jake Senger, Megan Hein and Markus Lackey.

All competitors took a 100-question multiple choice test on marketing concepts and had to perform an impromptu role play situation that dealt with either human relations problem solving, selling, promotion, economic concepts, management decision making, pricing, product development, planning marketing strategies, customer service problem solving or a combination of the above.

DECA is an association of high school marketing students who are pursing careers in marketing and management. Ohio DECA has 5,295 members with 190 chapters and National DECA has a total of 170,000 student members for the High School Division.
